We're dreaming of a Bute Christmas

12th December 2019

We are smack bang in the middle of the festive season right now which means we are counting down to a Christmas Eve night spent by the fire, G&T in hand, asking Alexa to play Bing Crosby on loop.
neon Christmas trees are strung up in Glasgow’s George Square and Edinburgh’s markets have all but eclipsed the capital. There is the usual rush around town to tick things of lists, order trees and snap a pic in a giant bauble.

Recently though we took the ferry across to our quaint Isle of Bute to participate in the Mount Stuart Christmas Fair. We experienced the local stores and businesses embracing the Isle’s homely Christmas tradition in a singularly BUTE-IFUL way.

All smiles as Managing Director Rhona, and husband Jack man the Isle of Bute Gin stall at the Mount Stuart Christmas Fair.

Tables were filled with artisan goods, while craft food and drink stalls lined the inside of the magnificent main hall and outside grounds. Our own table was filled with all our gin products, each dressed up with a little extra Christmas frill. The atmosphere of the day was nothing but supportive towards the vendors. As fair goers browsed the stands sipping on hot chocolates, wrapped up in scarves and beanies, we saw how locals and visitors alike genuinely love the fair. A true testament to the community’s desire to support their local producers, especially at Christmas when it’s easy to get lost in the functionality of ‘click & collect’ and ‘to-the-door services’.

Participating in the fair was part of our effort to involve our brand in the community as well as support the efforts of other Isle based businesses and establishments. Our distillery couldn’t open fast enough for us on the Island, but in the meantime we are grateful for the opportunities we have had this year to introduce our business and ourselves to Bute and encourage appreciation of this quintessential Scottish Isle.

Stay in touch as we count down to the end of the year with some gin inspired Christmas cocktails and recipes. Whether you are celebrating Christmas at home, on holiday or not at all – we wish everyone a happy new year and gin-filled holiday season.
